Retro City Rampage comes to Spain

Both Retro City Rampage and myself will be in Madrid at iDÉAME April 14th and 15th! You’ll get to play it on the Wii (courtesy of Nintendo!) . I’ll also be speaking about the game, its development and the industry, along side Magnus Palsson (DistractionWare, VVVVVV) and Jools Watsham (Renegade Kid, Mutant Mudds). It’s going to be fantastic, can’t wait!

It’s not come ANYWHERE, it’s not OUT yet.

  2. Matthew Boudreau says:

Dear dude who is making this game…

I was originally excited to buy this game, however you have been very rude to me. A couple days ago I posted on your facebook page that it was rude for you to not announce a delay, even though it looks like there is going to be one. Then, when people agree with me, you delete my facebook post and turn off messaging for your facebook page. So why should I purchase your game? Of course, you don’t care about one person buying your game. Clearly you don’t care about your customers at all, all that matters is that people buy your game.

You could have simply responded to my post with an apology, or an explanation, but instead you chose to remove the post all together. I guess you wouldn’t want any more people to see a displeased prospective customer.

    Give us a fucking update.

    • Gnoupi says:

      Dear self-entitled jerk.

He is working probably as fast as he can to finish the game, and have it released. Which also means that he is better off spending time programming than answering your precious question on Facebook. Question which was about the release date, like about 99% of questions he already got, and for which he already answered. There is not even a delay, the release date was not announced.

The actual release date is still “when it’s done”, and it should be soon. To be honest I prefer to wait an extra month if that means there won’t be unpleasant bugs on release.

You want to play the game, that’s great, but show a little respect for the guy who makes it, without being yet another whiner about the release date.

      • Matthew Boudreau says:

        Dear Gnuopi,
A release date was announced and it was supposed to be in May. No delay was announced, and no new content is uploaded. In fact, there still hasn’t been new videos released since I’ve posted that message. Even this Dev blog hasn’t been updated.

If there is a delay that is fine I don’t mind a delay and I agree it’s better to wait an extra month or 2 for a better game, but you should keep the people waiting to buy this game updated on what’s going on. Throw a damn bone our way and upload a new gameplay vid, or even a new blog entry.

How rude it is to have it previously announced to be released in May, and then when something goes wrong to completely ignore the fact that you told everyone it would be out in May, and go so far as to say it was never announced to be released in May. It was announced, and devs should have enough damn respect for the people waiting to buy their game to let us know it’s going to be delayed instead of pretending a firm release date was never announced.

Furthermore, how incredibly rude of Brian to continuously insist in every interview that he and he alone is the creator of this game. THIS IS NOT TRUE. There are 3 DJs who did the music, there is an art director for the look and feel of the game, and I’m sure there are more than that. Art director might sound like a low-key job on a game, and music even lower, but I can tell you an art director works like a dog and deserves some fucking recognition, and so do the DJs. Yea it’s written on this website that the DJs did the music, but its damn fucking rude to say “I’m the only one making this game” in interviews.

        • Relax says:

Matthew, did you pay money for this game? Unless you’ve purchased something and you were promised a delivery, you have ZERO right to come here and make demands. If anyone is rude, it is you. In fact, you are extremely rude. I know what it’s like to be excited about a cool game, but do you really think harassing the creator of the game is going to help you?

          • A Game Dev says:

            I agree with Matthew.

As an Indie developer, your “fandom” is your most precious ally: they will buy your game, and if it is good, they will follow you on all the projects you make.

All successful indie game developers always treat their fans very well. I even have Edmund McMillen on Facebook and we chat from time to time. In the opposite example, look what Phil Fish is getting now, when his fans are beginning to understand that he is a jerk (I talk about the buggy update accident).

Not announcing a game delay, not giving *any* news about your project (even when you announced a release date on May), is, I agree, very rude.

He is indeed getting a lot of questions on the same, but that’s because he didn’t make a single announcement. Is Brian even alive?

It doesn’t matter if one pre-ordered the game or not, it’s the attitude towards your possible costumers.

But for your curiosity, yes I have preordered the title, and since May I come here to read any announcement, only to find none.

I hope to hear an announcement and an apology from Brian about the delay. But if none is given after this year, I’m going to ask my money back.

  3. SERIOUSLY MAN says:

I hardly ever post on website comments sections like this but….

WHEN THE FUCK IS THIS GLORIOUS GODDAMN GAME COMING OUT OMFG

  4. CAN WE PLEASE GET AN UPDATE says:

    Hello,

Can you please make any sort of comment that lets us know what the current state of a release schedule looks like?

The last information you’ve gave us is that it would be released in May 2012 earlier this year. Since then you haven’t even acknowledged the delay. Its ok if things have slipped and the release date has been pushed back, or is not even currently known, but please let us know these things. Don’t just let May come and go with no word on a new release date. We shouldn’t have to still be asking about this 3 months later.

What I would really like from you is an update on the current release schedule, and when we can expect to hear another announcement from you about whether you have any more info to report at that time.

    Thanks

    • Matthew Boudreau says:

Yes these are my feelings exactly. Thank you “A game dev” for explaining to everyone why it’s rude for Brian to not even give an update.

However he is human and I must remember that I’m not in his shoes and there are possibilities that much of this is just out of his own control.

I am just mainly very irked because when I commented on the RCR facebook regarding this topic, I was banned, making me unable to post again. All because he couldn’t handle negative feedback. Very irksome.

I’m still going buy this game, no I have no pre-ordered it because I don’t see the point in pre-ordering a downloadable game.

  5. G-man says:

I don’t blame some of you getting upset over this. Wii fans were screwed over when xbox got exclusive rights almost 2 years ago. Then it was suppose to come out I believe for a summer of arcade release on 360… still nothing. And now the dev has been absent on his own site for almost 4 months now. Keep in mind this man is taking pre-orders and selling merchandise off a game thats not even out yet. Granted I forgot about this title for close to 6 months now and not really gave a hoot. The only reason I will probably still buy this game (pending its release) is the sole fact that I am a hardcore gamer and this looks like a great nostalgic game other than that Brian is tarnishing his name as a dev.

  6. Nate Church says:

The honeymoon period with this game is over.
I think it’s a bit silly that someone who has so thoroughly demonstrated why 1 person SHOULDN’T make a game is speaking anywhere about a ludicrously delayed design.

I’ve stopped following this title, and my gaming group has moved it to the “abandonware” pile. Seems like if the developer can’t even be bothered to address his pre-order customers during a 6 month silence / delay, he’s not serious enough to keep our business.

  7. Anon says:

    Where’s the additional pre-order bonuses?

  8. Releases Tomorrow says:

The game is coming out tomorrow for PS3 and VITA

  9. Releases Tomorrow says:

This game releases for PS3 and Vita tomorrow.

  10. Anon says:

Why do pre-orderers get it last?

Why do people buying it now get the discount?
